Safe System Course
Overview
Road Safety GB’s Safe System training course aims to develop a participant’s strategic understanding of, and ability to implement this proactive method of casualty reduction.
Safe System significantly differs from the previous approach as it recognises the role of human error in collisions and looks to mitigate this by ensuring that the pillars of the system, referred to as the layers of protection, are sufficiently robust to prevent errors from becoming catastrophic when they occur.
The course explores a range of subjects associated with implementing a Safe System, including: Safe Speeds, Safe Roads and Roadsides, Safe Vehicles, Safe Road Users and Post-Crash Response. The course has a strong focus on the need to work in partnership, not only with road safety professionals but the wider community.
Who should attend?
Anyone who is involved in road safety, including councillors, road safety officers and senior managers, road engineers, police, fire and rescue service, fleet managers, DVSA, etc.

- Recognition of the need to move to a Safe System
- Awareness of differences between a traditional approach to road safety and a Safe System
