Course overview

This two-day course will explain and illustrate how companies and other organisations can simply and effectively manage work-related road risk. Delegates will be taken through a structured process which will allow them to systematically analyse their key risks areas and then determine processes and control measures to mitigate these risks. By the end of the two days, they will have the tools to design and build their own work-related road safety management system appropriate to their situation, when they return to their workplace.

Learning outcomes

For the participant to have a greater understanding of:

• Why they need to manage work-related road safety.

• A systematic approach to managing work-related road safety.

• The need to consider a number aspects of the management system including the driver, the journey, the vehicle and the organisation.

Who should attend?

Fleet managers, managers of employees who drive or ride for work, HR and health and safety professionals.

Background

It has been estimated that between a quarter and a third of all fatal and serious injuries on our roads are work related, making driving one of the most dangerous occupations. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has confirmed that driving for work falls under health and safety law as well as road traffic law. Therefore, the associated risks should be effectively managed as part of a company’s health and safety management system.

The costs of not managing the driving at work risk

People Property The Business

Temporary or permanent staff replacement costs Increased wear and tear on the vehicles Lost productivity and unpredictability
